Florida Center For Allergy & Asthma Care Announces New Cosmetic Patch Testing Now Available in South Florida

MIAMI, FL – April 8, 2013 – From shampoo to hair color and cosmetics to nail polish, those popular beauty products can be causing allergies. While beauty products usually make you feel good, they can be the culprit of many skin irritations and allergic reactions. According to the FDC, up to 25% of people said that they have had some type of skin reaction to at least one beauty product. Florida Center For Allergy & Asthma Care (FCAAC) is one of less than a handful of facilities to now offer the Cosmetic Patch Test that checks chemicals generally found in popular beauty products.

Common reactions to such cosmetics and beauty products as hair color, nail polish, lipstick, hair products and perfumes include itching, redness, and in some cases, swelling of the area, flaking of the skin, blisters and pain in the affected area. Symptoms may commence immediately after using a certain product or even after years of usage. The best way to deal with this is to avoid using the product and visit a Board Certified allergist that can help diagnose and treat these allergies properly, which are extremely common.

The Cosmetic Patch Test checks for chemicals generally found in such products as: sunscreens, hair removers, shellacs found in nail polishes and lip shines, hair products, perfumes/colognes, make-up, dyes/colorants, lotions/moisturizers, baby powder and baby shampoo, shaving cream, vitamin supplements and even tests for commonly used plastics, glues, metals, rubbers usually found in latex gloves, and gum, just to name a few.

The Cosmetic Patch Test is placed on the patient with all allergens tested at one time.

“It is always exciting to offer new technology and treatments to our patients. With the newly introduced Cosmetic Patch Test we are providing improved quality of life for many more patients,” said President, Jaime Landman, M.D.

In addition to the cosmetic patch test, , FCAAC is now offering the North American Patch Test, which tests for allergen groupings as bakery products, cosmetics, cooling lubricants (as used in A/Cs and refrigerators), dental products commonly used by dentists, antibiotics and cortical steroids.
